100 not out as The Arsenal clean up
The Arsenal notched up their 100th Champions League goal
against Ajax in the Group B 2-1 win last night. And
the man to make that piece of history is none other than SuperSwede™ Freddie
Ljungberg. Camp Freddie who also got the 'man of the match'
gong made history as early as the second minute to put
The Arsenal in dream land. Frenchman Bobby Pires who
has been missing for The Arsenal for the most part of the
season made the Gooners breathe a little easier
when he swept in a 68th minute penalty after a trip on
José Antonio Reyes, Marcus Rosenberg got Ajax's reply seconds
later just to make all the fans sweat a bit. As did Manuel
'Fawlty' Almunia earlier in the game, who definitely has
a touch of the 'Stepanovs' about him, when he spilled a
shot your grand mother could hold.
The Arsenal with a host of stars missing through injuries
or bans average age was about 12 years old with youngsters
Cesc and Flamini bossing the midfield. Ajax to their credit
also had a host of first teamers out did make
a game of it - however The Arsenal did enough to secure
their first away win in the competition for the first time
in six times of asking. Two games, two wins and sitting
top of the table, which
is nice, can't ask more than that.
After match sound bites:
Arsene Wenger: “One hundred is
a number I like and Freddie is a guy I like. He scores a
lot of important away goals — he’s a winner.”
Camp Freddie: "Not a bad start! It's a bit easier
to play away from home and we controlled the game a little
bit. I think we did a great job today - the players
worked hard."
Sol Campbell: "We had a few players out, so there
was more of a responsibility but we did the job well, played
some good football and got the goals."
Gilberto to make miracle recovery?
With the threat of his first team place in danger our
Brazilian play maker Gilberto looks to make it back to
the team a lot quicker than first thought. "Gilberto's
scan came back quite positive and he has an outside chance
of playing on Sunday or at least after the break. We thought
at first that he would be out for four to six weeks. It
is good news because you always want to field as much experience
as possible." Saint Wenger told us in this exclusively
gleaned report from SkySports.
Walking in an Arsenal Wunderland
It's
win a t-shirt time again. After the last competition we
thought it would be rude not to give you boys and girls
the chance to win this gem.
Harderthansatan the uber cool t-shirt boys have produced
this new t-shirt in homage to Highbury. All you need to
do is answer this simple question. The new stadium is of
course named The Emirates Stadium, but if it was up to
you - what would you call it? Remember the funnier the
better.
