Arsenal have Thun, well only just
The Arsenal leg-end that is Dennis Bergkamp ensured it
was smiles all round when he scored the winning goal against
Champions League opposition FC Thun. DB10 who by the looks
of things will be used as a super sub for much of this
season done the damage in the dying seconds when most
Gooners thought the tie was going to end one apiece. With
some very dodgy refereeing and more card waving than an
Olympic High Diving event, Robin van 'Lord' Persie saw
red for a challenge on the ball when the opposition player
came clattering into his boot. It was a very harsh decision,
however The Arsenal have confirmed that they will appeal
the red card. The injured player however did returned to
the field complete with DIY Terry Butcher head band age,
much to the derision of the Highbury faithful.
In a game which The Arsenal were supposed to coast, the
2-1 score line did flatter the Swiss toberone eating FC
Thun side. However goals from Gilberto and the leg-end that
is DB10 settled the tie and every Gooners nerves, although
the alcohol probably played a big part in that, which is
nice. It was also nice too see Sol 'The Rock' Campbell
back in the side and as captain.
The other group game between Ajax and Sparta Prague
ended in a 1-1 draw, which puts the Arsenal on top of
Group B, which IS nice. back on the air
Allgoonerdup is back after a week long hiatus, well more
to the point, there were problems with the system and it
was more iffy than the 'performance' at the Riverside.
However after said problems a lot of emails to the site
have been lost, so if you have emailed a picture for Goonerbabe
in the last two weeks or entered the comp to win that lovely
Wunderland Arsenal t-shirt (see below)- you want to be
sending again, you know it makes sense... er cos you can't
win the t-shirt or see your mug on the gorgeous Goonerbabe
wall of fame.
and Vieira sees red as well
Italian football playing and ex Arsenal captain Patrick
Vieira saw red in his first game for the 'Old Lady' of
Juventus. Nice to see no change there then.
Dennis to play in Amsterdam?
In many papers and web sites the big Arsenal story is that
Saint Wenger may ask Dutch Master Dennis Bergkamp to play
a part in the second group game against Ajax. With Captain
and all round Mr Nice Guy Thierry Henry out injured out for
a possible six weeks and Lord van Persie out for three games,
The Arsenal's European attack looks shorter than Danny
DeVito on his knees. Not really sure why Arsene Wenger
would have to ask Bergkamp to play a part, more to the
point he HAS to play a part, surely?
Walking in an Arsenal Wunderland
