Road trip at High Noon

With The Arsenal winning on the road at Charlton on Boxing Day and dispatching Pompey 4-0 at home, this road trip doesn't seem as daunting. The boys seem to be strutting the stuff we have to come know and love - let's hope those northern monkeys Aston Villa read the script and don't spoil the party. The Brummies who are of course are bossed by Arsenal leg-end and mate of Bobby Pires - David O'Leary, which adds another bit of bite to the match.

By rights this game should see goals, as sports bookies would attest, and as as The Villa have cracked an amazing seven goals in two games and after the 'blip' The Arsenal are firing on all cylinders - especially José Antonio Reyes, which is nice. But of course it wouldn't be a 'normal' pre-match write up if there wasn't any injuries to report, so this one is no different. Ahead of this 'must-win' clash (yep another one of those) our 'Invisible Wall' that is Gilberto is struggling with an injury and is waving his sick note around. However wily Frenchman Arsène Wenger believes he has enough cover (i.e. Mathieu Flamini) if the Brazilian fails to make it.

Mentalist wants to sign up

German keeper and mentalist keeper Jens Lehmann wants to extend his contract at The Arsenal which ends in June 2006. The afro sporting star revealed in this exclusively gleaned report: "I know I've been consistent since I got back into the side. I'm concentrating on every game, I'm playing to win trophies and hopefully extend my contract." See we did tell you.

Lehmann who was replaced by penalty saving Spaniard Manuel Almunia for a few game last year continued, in what could be a bit mischief making directly aimed at the hit and miss Spanish keeper said: "It's all about consistency. You can't rely on a goalkeeper who is making a fantastic save in one match and then a bad mistake in the next."
