Euro third round draw.. Wenger Inler mood for midfield signing.. Lehmann.. and other bits
Hello and welcome to all you Gooner's, it's nearly here - 'proper' football, you can almost smell it.
Today at 11am in Lyon we have the Third Qualifying Round of the Champions League - so time to get excited. The list of teams The Arsenal could face doesn't exactly read like a who's who of European football giants but there are one or potential banana skins in the mix, what with Athletico Madrid (Spain), Galatasaray (Turkey) and Dynamo Kiev (Ukraine) amongst possible teams we could face. I reckon we'd do well to bypass any of those teams especially so early in the season, when we're still finding our feet. However we just have to see just how those weighted balls are behaving. And in this day and age of the interweb you can hook up to the draw live. How exciting. There's a number of sites doing the draw live and there's plenty worst than the official Uefa one - so for instant ooh, aah and fecking hell reaction jump onto the official Uefa Champions League Third Round Draw site.
Cross your fingers we get a nice little tie against some Greek taverna owners or part-time Swedish plumbers. If you wish you can stay tuned and watch the UEFA Cup draw too and you can laugh at the teams David 'eyeing a top four finish' Bentley and his spurs will face - probably a team of geriatric Polish nurses or a team so unpronounceable you would get a top score in Scrabble in. Once again, let me just say a big thank you again and a cheers easy to spurs for donating around £7m to The Arsenal coffers for that purchase. Wenger must be laughing his arse off, did spurs read the small print? Anyway Lets hope Le Gaffer actually puts that unexpected windfall to good use, like buying an experienced player or a decent centre back to put what we have under pressure. We'll see soon enough I suppose.
Which leads me nicely onto Swiss 'star' Gokhan Inler whose agent Dino Lamberti is apparently flying into London for talks with The Arsenal big wigs. Now not sure if this is a huge surprise as Inler's employers - Udinese - only a few days ago categorically said the player wasn't going anywhere and any stories linking the player with a move away was a load of balls. But I guess the lure of playing for The Arsenal and more to the point the scent of filthy lucre in the air gets the ball rolling on this one. Like Bischoff I've never seen Inler play so I can't pass comment but again in true Wenger stylee, the lad is young, cheap, young, cheap and a cheaper alternative compared to other players of the same ilk, the only thing that is missing is any French heritage. I don't really think this signing will be the statement of intent many a Gooner wants to see and what with Wenger saying he's only looking to buy one more player there wont be if Inler signs up. But hey, his agent Dino Lamberti might be telling a bunch of porkies and trying to get the youngster a pay hike at Udinese or gain more interest in his player. Well it wouldn't be the first time an agent has done it is it?
much. Adebayor would do well to heed Lehmann's words of advice as I'm sure if he didn't Lehmann would cross the channel and probably lump him.
Well just what Adebayor will do is a mystery. He hasn't mouthed off for a while and will do well to get his head down and work his nuts off and get back on side with the Arsenal fans. Adebayor's time will come tomorrow in The Emirates Cup when I'm sure he'll feature it just remains to be seen just what type of reaction (OK abuse - and yes I've used that line before but recycling is a good thing people, I'm being environmentally friendly!) The Togonator™ will get.
And lastly, I only wrote it as a bit of a laugh but it seems my prediction is going to come good. After Zenit St. Petersburg's Andriy Arshavin said his dream move would be Barcelona because he watched them as a kid, they showed no interest, his agent immediately tries to hawk his asset in The Arsenal's direction saying the way we play would suit his suitcase of money I mean young charge. Anyway what with a price tag of £24.5m The Arsenal board are probably still laughing now, anyway I said that Arshavin next's step would be to say how much he would love to play for spurs. Well how the mighty have fallen or how the 'I believe my own hype' have fallen. It comes to pass that such is Arshavin's desperation he actually does want to go to Big Four Club Spurs™. Oh how I laughed but not as much when I realised I should of put a bloody punt on it! Spurs? Frigging hell he must be desperate.
