Wenger not giving up on title

Even after the umpteen 1-1 draw in the Premier League wily coach or should that be disillusional coach Arsène Wenger believes The Arsenal can still win the title. Having dropped off the pace and CSKA Chelsea overtaken us and putting a run of wins together, I think they have more of a chance to win the league and what with Manchester USA's slip up against northern monkeys Middlesboro's anything is possible I guess. Wenger was left frustrated on Saturday (as the rest of us) against the hubcap nicking, shell suit wearing, giro getting Liverpool Scallies USA after yet another draw. Not sure what is going through Wenger's head but the team played at a real slow pace and didn't have that zip or verve about them, the only time The Arsenal showed any urgency was in the dying seconds but by that time it was too late.

Some of our players seemed to have hit the wall, the major name being Cesc Fabregas who had a complete dog of a game against the scouser's, I can't remember him having a worst game in recent times. The stand out performance came from Theo Walcott who in my opinion has to start against the scouser's in Part III of the Arsenal vs Liverpool trilogy. If there was a time to see the Gunners haven't got strength in depth or wingers - it was this game. I mean how the hell can you put Flamini out on the left wing!! He isn't a winger, the same with Emmanuel Eboué, he sure as hell isn't a winger in my opinion even though Arsène Wenger will tell you otherwise. I know the big joke is Wenger doesn't tend to see things or incidents on the pitch clearly but I have no idea how he sees Eboué as a winger - I think I would understand trichotomy easier than Wenger's explanation.

I'm not sure what happened to the Arsenal play on Saturday but the players just didn't seem to be at the races and as previously mentioned the pace was so slow - this didn't seem to be any urgency or drive in what was supposedly a 'must win game' - it was more of a 'if we turn up and win well that would be nice'. I'm not sure if I'm being too harsh on the team but the way the boys are playing is becoming so frustrating lately, we know they can do it (when they're up for it) Wenger tells us all the time the players have the talent and ability to do it - so why aren't they? The play against Liverpool looked very pedestrian, Liverpool came for a draw and got it and were well happy about it. I remember not so long ago if The Arsenal were losing and there was 10 or 15 minutes left all you would see was wave after wave our a red and white attack until the opposition just crumbled because they were getting completely battered. We don't seem to be doing that to teams anymore, we just carry on playing pretty patterns with our passing and more times than not the ball is going sideways or even passed back! WTF! Come on Wenger tell the team to find that ruthless streak and kill teams off, not just contain them. Before the season started what with the departures and lack of 'big name' or experienced signings I was happy to see the boys consolidate that fourth spot, anything more in my opinion would be a bonus. However, after seeing the players get so close you can actually smell the silverware I think it would be huge blow and really frustrating to get so close and get nothing out of this season (and that's putting it politely). There is no point in saying 'Oh but next season, we'll be better equipped etc etc etc....' That's next season and we've been saying that for the last four seasons! The Champions League is really our only real hope of silverware this season but it remains to be seen whether if this season is going to be all talk and no walk. OK rant over, I'm normally the optimistic one but this second half of the season is driving me bonkers.

Summer shopping

Forum resident Guildford Gooner has this thought. Well that's it for the league. Our threadbare squad seems to have run out of steam and if I was being really honest I could stomach a loss to the Manc's as long as it makes sure that the chav's don't win it. As long as it's a narrow loss. With another shite penalty decision going against us.

But anyhoo, thoughts on ins and outs for the summer. As magnificent as our young players have been, it's obvious we need a bit more depth.... Jump onto The Forum and read more on the subject and even leave your own comments - the more the merrier. Summer shopping.

60 Second Round-up

Fran Merida signs up: Spanish sensation and a player dubbed Cesc Mark II Fran Merida, has signed an extended contract to keep him at The Arsenal. The 18 year old who's playing for Real Sociedad put pen to paper midweek and joins Manuel Almunia in signing extensions - looks like someone needs to have a word with that Flamini fella.... Make some news: Arsenal blog Le Grove (a great site by the way) is trying to get something done about the noise level (or lack of more to the point) have butchers on their site and add your thoughts or alternatively you  can jump onto the Allgoonerdup Forum and stick your thoughts on their - Ashburton Grove - Bring the noise and we'll get the ideas together and send them as well as ours onto the Le Grove boys...
